SEND reform updates
Changes to SEND law and policy will be tracked here, each labelled with its status so a proposal is never read as settled law. Nothing is published yet.
SEND rules change, and a change that has only been proposed is very different from one that’s in force. Every update here is labelled with where it stands, so you never have to guess and never have to read a proposal as though it were the law. No update can arrive without its status attached.
How every update will be labelled
The label sits on each update, so its standing is clear at a glance.
- Current law
- In force now. This is what applies to your child today.
- Proposed
- Announced or drafted, but not in force. It may change, or may never happen, and it does not apply yet.
- In consultation
- Open for views before any decision. Nothing is settled while a consultation is running.
- Superseded
- Replaced by something newer. Kept for reference, and marked so it’s not mistaken for current law.
